A free imposter word game everyone plays on their own phone
Hushword is a free imposter word game for 3 to 8 people in the same room: the host starts it in ChatGPT, and everyone else joins in their phone's browser with a 4-letter code, with no app, account or names. Each phone shows the secret word except the imposter's, so nobody passes a phone around, and ChatGPT hosts the round: it calls the clue order, plays the bots and reads the result.

How to play it on your phones
- Start a room in ChatGPT. The host asks ChatGPT: “Let's play Hushword with 5 friends.” ChatGPT opens a room and gives a 4-letter code, a link and a QR code.
- Join on your phones. Everyone opens hushword.ambientapp.ai in their phone's browser, types the code and picks an animal (Fox, Otter, Panda…). There is nothing to download and nobody signs up.
- Hold to see the word. Each phone shows the secret word while you hold it. The imposter's phone shows only the category.
- Give clues out loud. In the order ChatGPT calls, everyone says a one-word clue: specific enough to prove you know the word, vague enough that the imposter can't work it out.
- Vote and reveal. Everyone votes on their phone. A caught imposter gets one last guess at the word from 8 options; guess right, or escape the vote, and the imposter wins.
How the free ways to play compare
There are good free options, and Hushword isn't the only one that puts the word on everyone's own phone. Here is what each one is like.

Checked on each game's own site or publisher's page on 14 October 2026; details change. More than 8 players? Table Party or The Impostor Game fits better. Only one phone in the room? Pick a pass-around game. Want a host who keeps order and fills empty seats with bots? That's what Hushword does.
Use it in ChatGPT
Hushword Imposter is a ChatGPT plugin. The host types one of these, and friends join at hushword.ambientapp.ai with the code:
- “Let's play Hushword with 5 friends”
- “Start a Hushword room where ChatGPT is the imposter”
- “Open a Hushword room with 3 bots so I can try it”
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Hushword has no purchases, subscriptions or ads.
Do my friends need ChatGPT?
No. Only the host uses ChatGPT. Everyone else opens a web page on their phone.
Can we play over a video call?
Hushword is made for one room: clues are said out loud and the game doesn't carry voices. On a call where everyone can hear each other it can work, but that isn't what it's built for.
How many people can play?
3 to 8 seats, and up to 3 can be bots, so a small group, or one person trying it out, still has a full table.
Is it OK for kids?
The English and Turkish word packs are written for ages 13 and up, with no brands or characters.
